In her starring role as Nikki Newman, Melody Thomas Scott is celebrating 45 years on The Young and the Restless, television’s number one daytime drama. Melody’s character matured from the girl from the wrong side of the tracks to the serial’s luminous and resourceful leading lady. After garnering four Soap Opera Update Awards for “Outstanding Lead Actress” (1992, 1993, 1995, and 1996), she received a Daytime Emmy nomination for “Outstanding Lead Actress” in 1999 and went on to win in the same category for the Soap Opera Digest Award in 2001. Melody began her career at age three under the tutelage of Ethel Meglin, who launched the careers of Shirley Temple and Judy Garland. She studied singing, tap dancing, ballet, and jazz and became one of the world-famous “Meglin Kiddies,” performing in USO shows as she started booking national commercials and guest spots on such series as Wagon Train, My Three Sons, Ironside, and a recurring role on The Waltons. At age eight, Melody made her motion picture debut as the young title character in Alfred Hitchcock’s thrilled Mamie. At 13, she co-starred with Clint Eastwood and Geraldine Page in The Beguiled. While still a teenager, she played ingenue roles in Brian DePalma’s The Fury and opposite stars like John Wayne in The Shootlist, Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry, and Kirk Douglas, who also directed her, in Posse. Additional film appearances are The Car and Piranha. Melody has numerous television credits, as well, and she was the subject of Lifetime Television’s Intimate Portrait. A Los Angeles native, Melody starred in several critically acclaimed productions, including The Vagina Monologues. A life-long fan of “I Love Lucy,” Melody served as a founding member of the Board of Directors of the Lucille Ball-Desi Arnaz Center in Jamestown, NY, which is committed to preserving the legacy of the great comedienne. The city also holds a special place in her heart, as her maternal grandparents spent most of their adult lives raising their family in Jamestown. Married since 1985, Melody and Edward Scott have three daughters and five grandchildren. In August 2020, Melody released her long-awaited memoir, Always Young and Restless: My Life On and Off America’s #1 Daytime Drama.
