Intro to Physical Mediumship with Susan Barnes

In this workshop we will explore types of physical mediumship, including table tipping, talking boards, scrying, trumpets, and spoon bending. At the beginning of Spiritualism, physical mediumship, such as rappings, table tilting, talking boards, tea leaf readings, planchette, automatic writing, and scrying, were popular ways of communicating with the Spirit world. Unlike mental mediumship, physical phenomena work with objects and materials in the real world. The most unusual form of physical work is the materialization of a substance called ectoplasm, which is revealed by a medium during dark seances. This workshop will cover historical and contemporary physical mediums, explanation of physical mediumship; rappings and table tilting, spoon bending and trumpets, scrying and automation, and talking boards.

Dr. Susan B. Barnes, CSNU, is a retired Professor of communication at Rochester Institute of Technology and holds a certificate from the Spiritualist National Union. She has been a tutor on SNUi and currently teaches mediumship and spirit art classes for Edgar Cayce's Association for Research and Enlightenment. Dr. Barnes is the author of Unfolding Physical Mediumship and Visual Spirituality. There is an additional class fee of $5.00 for materials.
