Addiction to emotions forms at various times in our lives.
On one hand, we become addicted to "feeling bad" from experiences or difficult relationships that left us feeling unsafe, unworthy, unloved or invisible. These experiences leave an emotional and energetic imprint that many carry with us into adulthood. Although rationally we do not want to feel these emotions, the rush of neurotransmitters experienced during interactions and emotions becomes a reward.
On the other hand, we develop an addiction to emotions that are attached to highlights in our lives such as the honeymoon phase in a relationship. While these feelings are wonderful at the moment, they are still part of the addiction cycle, setting up a pattern of attempting to achieve a sense of euphoria and then becoming disappointed in day-to-day reality. This is seen as an "overachiever,…
