Physical Mediumship: Past and Present

In Victorian times, physical mediumship was practiced regularly by Spiritualists in the United States and England.  The earliest form of psychic phenomena occurred in physical nature.  Phenomena was produced that could be perceived by all witnesses in a séance. This included: levitation, telekinesis, apports, transfiguration, and direct art or writing.   Today, physical mediumship occurs through Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC), audio and visual information received from the spirit world through electric media. 

This program will discuss and demonstrate aspects of physical mediumship.  From the past a background on physical mediumship will be described.  A trance demonstration will illustrate physical mediumship from previous times.  To represent physical mediumship in the present, a series of ITC experiments will take place.  The concepts of past and present physical mediumship will be both explained and shown.  Audience members will be asked to participate in the experiments and ask questions.  This will be an interactive talk. 

Bio:Dr. Susan B. Barnes, CSNU is an international medium, communication professor, and spirit artist.  She was trained as an artist at Pratt Institute and received her Ph.D. from New York University.  Currently, she operates the Spirit Art Gallery in Cassadaga, NY.  Susan is a certificate holder of the Spiritualist National Union and she taught for five years on SNUi. She is the Vice-president of the Lily Dale Spiritualist Church.  Her work has been featured in the Psychic Observer, Psychic News, the Psychic Professor’s Show and the Journal of Exceptional Experiences and Psychology. She has exhibited in shows in New York City, Jamestown, and Europe. Susan is the author of eight books including: Unfolding Physical Mediumship.  Susan regularly teaches classes on Zoom for the AREI where she conducts classes on mediumship and spirit art.
