The Healing Goddess with John and Marie Pettingill

Session Description: Join us for a class on the Healing Goddess.  It includes Manifestations of the Healing Goddess, covers the evolution of the divine feminine as a healing force.  Topics include the following. Why is healing associated with the divine feminine?  Why is the healing goddess often associated with the earth and vegetation?  Why is there an association with experiences such as childbirth, the healing arts, and prophecy? Why is there an association with guiding souls to the underworld, magic potions, and other mysteries?  What do symbols such as snakes and the moon represent?  How is the Virgin Mary a manifestation of the healing goddess? Cultures to be explored include ancient Hebrew, Greek, Sumerian, Inuit, Celtic, Dakota, Sami, and Yoruba.   And Experiencing the Healing Goddess, covers methods used to access the energy of the Healing Goddess. We will show examples from selected cultures including singing from the Arctic culture of the Sami, herbal healing used by Native American peoples, and the Tammurriata - a folk dance of south of Italy with roots in the cult of the Goddess Diana. Participants can join in meditation, chanting, drumming, and the use of medicinal plants.

Presenter Bio: Marie Dagit Pettingill is a leadership coach.  John Dagit Pettingill works for the Minnesota Historical Society.  Both John and Marie teach classes in spiritual growth such as divine feminine and masculine spirituality, interpretation of sacred texts, and sacred landscapes.  Curriculum outlines and slides are available upon request.
