About the Event
Composer Jill Tracy introduces her latest album and companion book, The Secret Music of Lily Dale, a unique sonic exploration of authentic field recordings created during three residencies in Lily Dale from 2017 to 2019. While sitting alone at the antique grand piano inside Lily Dale's historic auditorium, Jill recorded herself creating spontaneous compositions. In addition to this fascinating Spirit-channeled music, you'll hear mysterious sounds that were not part of the performance but inexplicably appear on the recording and defy explanation. Additionally, Jill captured field recordings of chilling nighttime rainstorms, indigenous birds, geese, and crickets at powerful vortex points at Inspiration Stump and throughout Leolyn Woods. The result is an original, beautiful, and mystical audio journey. The evening will be interspersed with personal stories of Jill's unusual and profound discoveries during the process and will include behind-the-scenes photos. Jill will be selling and autographing books following the event.
Jill Tracy is an award-winning musical artist, composer and storyteller known for her beautifully haunting, cinematic music, sophisticated lyrics, and curious passion for strange tales. Described on NPR’s All Things Considered as "utterly intriguing, transporting you into a magical world solely of her creation," LA Weekly hailed her as a "femme fatale for the thinking man." Her music has appeared in numerous films and television shows, including Showtime’s Dexter, the CBS hit NCIS, and the motion picture Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Jill has collaborated and performed with music legends Bauhaus, Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees,) and Jello Biafra, as well as famed author Lemony Snicket (Daniel Handler). With her affinity for odd history tales, magic, and unexpected inspirations, Jill travels to unusual locales (cemeteries, abandoned asylums, murderous mansions, and haunted castles), where she uses the energy, frequency, resonances, and unusual sounds of the environment to compose spontaneous music. Her latest work, "The Secret Music of Lily Dale," chronicles her experiences and otherworldly late-night piano recordings channeled alone inside the town's historic auditorium.
